I Did It! I Ran for 15 Minutes Straight by the Beach!

November 19th, 2010 — 12:18pm

I said in my previous posting that I will report back – well, I excelled my expectations!

I think I did it because:

  • I wrote out the Runners World beginners running program on one sheet of A4 that I put in front of me on the wall next to my computer. So I always see it when working on the computer.
  • I worked out the distances involved and wrote them down. This got me more involved in thinking the task, imagining I am there and what that would involve.
  • I took a comforting item with me (my mobile phone as my stop-watch) and wore clothes I feel comfortable in.
  • I used the Buteyko breathing method to help me build my breathing stamina.
  • I worked my legs in the gym using weights, and also attended classes, to strengthen the muscles.
  • I used EFT for any block in my path.

I hope this helps motivate you or yours for achieving any sports goal you want. I´ll keep you posted on my progress.

Week 5 of Runners World Running Training

November 14th, 2010 — 1:50pm

Suzanne:  5

COPD:  0

This week started today, and I was terrified that this week is the week the COPD wins. I was so afraid that I could not concentrate on anything and had to tap almost continually all day, till I got the guts to go to the gym and find out. At the gym, I caught the Yoga class, and it was very relaxing. Hard, but relaxing. And of course, I tapped at every opportunity there too. After the class, I went up to the treadmill, but decided to build my lungs up properly first. I went onto the elliptical trainer and tapped/rubbed my finger points against the handlebars while doing my Buteyko exercises for lung stamina. I kept going till I could walk the elliptical trainer for just over 10 seconds holding my breath, and then graduated to the treadmill.

On the treadmill, I was calm but still afraid and I tapped while I walked for about a minute, then I really wanted to run, so I started. I am on Week 5 of the Runners World training, and so I had to run 8 minutes straight. I kept tapping:

¨Even though Iḿ terrified, I deeply love and accept myself¨

¨Even though Iḿ so afraid the COPD will win this time, I deeply love and accept myself¨

It was helping, but I needed more, so I shouted in my mind the ¨I DEEPLY and COMPLETELY LOVE and ACCEPT MYSELF¨ and then there was no stopping me. I made myself stop at 8 minutes, rested 2 minutes, then  started again. I finished the next 8 minutes, and there was a smelly-cheap-perfume-spray person just next to me. Now, that obstruction in my left lung means that if anything irritates my lung, it can swell and the obstruction would stop me in my tracks. So I tapped for ¨poison person¨ and then simply changed to another treadmill. I kept going till I did my set of 3 8-minute runs. Then I allowed myself to break into a sprint. It lasted about 12 seconds but it was wonderful.

So….

COPD: Nil – a big fat zero!

F*** You, I´m a Marathon Runner Mantra

October 22nd, 2010 — 11:30am

That was my mantra yesterday. Let me put it in context. My day was absolutely awful due to being harassed by a crazy person by phone and email. It was not serious enough to call the police, and in my line of work, I do attract some aggressive types. But I was totally shaken and quite rightly felt threatened. You never know what someone like that will do. So no matter what and how I tapped, I stayed on a downer. Then I forced myself to go to the gym, got on the treadmill, and it was hard, so I tapped to release the emotions behind my lack of motivation. I tapped:

¨Even though I´m being harassed by this crazy woman, …¨ … No effect…

¨I´m a good runner¨…  ¨I´m a marathon runner¨… No effect…

I kept doing lots of tappings with little or no effect until I got really angry with this person. I ran as I saw her in my mind in front of me and tapped:

¨F*** you, f*** you¨

I was getting somewhere. I felt better. Then I developed a mantra:

¨F*** you, f*** you, I´m a marathon runner¨

That did it. I completed my training for the day with flying colors and felt immensely calm and motivated  :-)

Two Oceans Half-Marathon Entry Requirement – I Made it!

October 17th, 2010 — 5:00am

I found out yesterday that I am now fit enough to run the Two Oceans Half-Marathon. I nearly did not make it; not for physical reasons, but for emotional reasons. The requirement is to be able to walk 1 km in 8.5 minutes. I made it in 8 minutes and 28 seconds.

Everyone who knows me knows that I fell seriously ill with a lung condition in 1986, which became chronic in 1987 and have since been on the path first to stay alive, and then to get better. Running this half marathon will be quite a testament to all the healing work I have done, without which I should now be either dead or in a wheelchair with an oxygen tank. Let me tell you about my journey yesterday.

It started with a self-healing for abundance and money. Having been living with a serious lung condition for over 20 years, I am at the last stages of paying off the huge debt that I got into. That created in me many blocks to money success. And the day before yesterday, I was working to release a money block, after which I felt great, so I posted something on Facebook saying that I have a new passion. This led to some replies, and then I replied that my plan was to enter a sporting event in 2014, when I reckoned I would be fit enough, but that I would probably be ready for 2012. Then my cousin replied that she would like to join me, and she was thinking of running the Two Oceans marathon next year. At this point, curiosity got the better of me, and I looked up the Two Oceans website. I found out they have a 21 km half-marathon and found out the entry requirements. I decided the next day at the gym, I would go on the treadmill and find out if I was fit enough.

I got to the gym just in time to enter a fun event they were running. It was a two-hour Zumbathon, which was too good to miss. I had to tap during the Zumbathon to stay there, as the compulsion to go to the treadmill was pretty overwhelming at times. I needed to find out so badly! But I knew that if I missed out on the Zunmbathon, I would be disappointed. The same again happened with the stretch class after the Zumbathon. It is really important to stretch as part of my fitness regime, and I tapped to control the urge to skip the class and make a beeline to the treadmill. The tapping was very simple. I just rubbed or tapped my favourite points discreetly as I thought of the urge to go to the treadmill.

Then the stretch class finished. My heart was beating audibly in my chest as I finally went determinedly to the treadmill. After 23 years, was I finally fit enough to do this, or would I be severely disappointed? I got on the treadmill and started walking but realized that I did not know how to measure 1 km in 8.5 minutes. Too excited to do a mental calculation, I got off the treadmill and back to the changing-room, where I worked out that it is around 7.2 km per hour. Then it was a simple matter of knowing that I had to run an average of 7.2 km per hour in order to complete the 1 km in 8.5 minutes. Back on the treadmill, I started walking then set the controls, and walked – and struggled to breathe. At 2.5 minutes, I felt exhausted. I started tapping by rubbing my thumb points continuously on the handlebars as I thought the negative thoughts which were weakening me. My spouse used to be an olympic-grade athlete and is now disabled, and was totally depressed when I had announced my intention to enter the half-marathon. But as I was tapping, my thoughts changed to knowing that if I set an example with my miraculous healing, then my spouse can only be encouraged by that in due course. The walking became very easy after that, till about 3.5 minutes, when I had the fear of failure weakening me. So I tapped in the same way while saying to myself:

I can´t make it – I can make it – I can´t make it – I can make it.

The tapping changed what I was saying to:

I can make it. I can do it. I can.

Then at 5 minutes, I wanted to make sure I did this. I spoke in my mind, whilst tapping continuously, giving every cell in my body a one-word message:

Health

At 6 minutes, I felt that every cell in my body was understanding the new command and was doing what was required to be in a state of health. Then, to be extra sure, I visualised myself wearing the shirt with lots of numbers on it, like the guy in the picture on the two oceans website. I imagined myself running with a few people in front of me (as is physically realistic) and lots of people behind me. Then I continued tapping as I approached 8 minutes and 28 seconds to stop myself from crying with joy in front of everyone at the gym!

If you are planning to go and want to meet up, let me know! Now what remains is to wait for the Two Oceans website to be ready for me to pay them and officially enter. I hope I have not missed out for this round. If so, I will simply enter the next one. I eagerly await this to happen.

Gym motivation with EFT

August 15th, 2010 — 7:57am

Having finally gotten rid of the Chest Infection From Hell, I have now been 3 full-on days back at the gym training.  Oh my goodness, I am soooo unfit!

In the Spin class today, there was no way I could have finished the 90-=minute class without EFT. I just tapped for every objection that came to my mind:

“Even though I don’t think I can do this…”

“Even though I just don’t have the energy…”

“Even though the slowest fattest person has left and now I’m the worst…”  That situation did not last long!

“Even though my legs are complaining…”

“Even though it hurts…”

I did the whole 90-minute class and then went on to the gym equipment, the ski machine, stretches, and the rowing machine. I kept tapping through every objection, until I got to the point where the tapping no longer was keeping me going. That was the EFT telling me my body had enough and more was going to put me at risk of an injury (something I never do). I love this tapping! It not only is motivational but it shows you when you have to stop.

Can’t sleep

April 25th, 2010 — 6:28pm

My spouse is down to one small contract for now and I worry about when the next one will happen, as it is mainly down to me right now. So I am up worrying. Of course this won’t help anything.

Setup

“Even though I worry and can’t sleep, I trust the Universe will provide, even if not just yet”

Reminder

“Grrr… Why not just yet? I want it and I want it now”

“Can’t sleep”

Yawn…

Tired…

“Can’t sleep”

Yawn…

Going to bed…

EFT for going the whole hour on cardio machines

March 26th, 2010 — 8:27am

Another surreptitious tapping success at the gym.

I missed my first class in the gym. And the second. Nothing emotional, just work. But I did make the third choice. This was Pilates for an hour. Since tapping on insecurities a long time ago, I no longer breather like they want me to, as I find it encourages hyperventilation – no good for COPD or asthma.  So, after a lovely class, I had another hour in the gym and I had to spend it on the cardio machines.

I did 53 minutes. Then I was feeling bored and wanting to go back to work. But that’s when I tapped:

“Even though I can’t make 7 more minutes…”

OK, that helped. It took me to half-way, 3.5 minutes. I wanted to stop. So I tapped continuously with the finger points (rubbing or tapping them on the handlebars or against each other) as I stepped on the stepping machine (great lung workout). I observed my thoughts as I was considering going on for 10 minutes now! I stopped at 8, 1 minute beyond my plan. Not bad!

EFT Tapping at Virgin Active Tableview in Cape Town Spin Class

January 31st, 2010 — 6:05am

I had a tummy bug and so this is my second day properly at the gym, and it’s good that my health is picking up again almost where I left off. I started tapping discreetly by rubbing the finger points against the handlebars, then ended up rubbing some extra points from the Under Nipple down. The statements I used were something like:

“1 minute [at very high speed]” when we had a 1-minute breakaway.

“I can do this. YES I CAN”.

“I am Superwoman” Now that one made me weaker, whereas in the past it had worked. So I tapped on all the issues around it, or should I say – rubbed.

At one point, I felt like I was breathing freely. It was the most amazing feeling, to feel normal again. It didn’t last, but I remember it and hold onto it.

bicicletta_cycle_archite_01

Gillian (worth a visit to Virgin Active in Cape Town’s Tableview – she really gets the music) was saying something to those in the group training for Ironman. At the same time, I happened to be tapping, and all of a sudden it hit me: There is no reason why I can’t make that my goal! OK, I’ll start small, with a small event, and build up. I reckon it will take me 4 years to get my fitness up to the level of entry in a smaller event, but I now plan to do it. I gave myself till January 2014 to become ready. 3 Years and 11 months and counting…

Yes I Can Tapping

October 18th, 2009 — 8:48am

At the gym this morning, I wanted to take the higher weight and really felt I couldn’t do it. So I started tapping “Even though I can’t…”

Then it changed to “I can, I can, yes, I can!”

I took the higher weight. I did it!

Rash, neck pain, and cat allergy – gone again

October 15th, 2009 — 11:30am

Last week, I had a few very stressful days getting on target with work to help my spouse’s work. I did it, but it left me frazzled, despite tapping. I ended up with an all-over rash and my cat allergy went up to 2% of what it used to be at its worst. I had to take antihistamines to cope. And my neck ached and moved to the right. But, I kept tapping on all the issues, and this combined with some gentle exercises and stretches for my neck, all the above are gone.

suz08

If you have an issue which returns under extreme conditions, just keep tapping for it, and you may be pleasantly surprised at the results.

Now I am left with a very slight chest infection, which I am tapping for (“Even though I have this infection in my chest…”) and winning!
